May 5, 2025

Canada over the last few decades has built its name as a quality and reliable destination for international studies. It is right up there with USA, Australia and UK, be it turn out of students, revenue generated from international students, or the reputation and quality of studies provided to the students. Large number of students have been there from India, South Asia, France, Africa and many other places. However, the scenario has changed in the last five years, Canada has been overburdened by the number of international students, so much so that finding housing and accommodation have been a grave task for locals and internationals alike. To address that they have implemented number of corrective reforms, to maintain the standards of international students and their education system. They have been criticized for it and have also seen student numbers drop, but they found it imperative.

Out of all these changes implemented over the years, one of them is, International Students require a new study permit, in case they decide to change the Designated Learning institute within Canada. Attempt as it seems on their end is to retain genuine and quality students and avoid any fraudulent activities. International students enrolled in Canada will need to apply for a new study visa as of May 1, 2025, if they want to transfer to a different school, college, or university. The purpose of this new rule is to guarantee that students follow the correct processes and to improve the credibility of the Global Student Program.

Students who transfer to a new institution without applying for a new study permit risk serious repercussion, such as Revocation of their present research authorization not being able to get future work or study permits, possible deportation.
